Bunin, Leontii
Bunin, Leontii
Russian engraver of the late 17th and early 18th centuries. Worked in the Armory in Moscow.
Bunin’s basic work was 43 pages of the primer of Karion Istomin, engraved with a chisel on copper (1692-94). Each page of the primer, created for Aleksei, the son of Peter I, has a letter composed of human figures, objects that begin with that letter, as well as the letter’s Slavic, Greek, and Latin forms.
