Bunyaviridae ThesaurusNoun | 1. | Bunyaviridae - a large family of arboviruses that affect a wide range of hosts (mainly vertebrates and arthropods)arborvirus, arbovirus - a large heterogeneous group of RNA viruses divisible into groups on the basis of the virions; they have been recovered from arthropods, bats, and rodents; most are borne by arthropods; they are linked by the epidemiologic concept of transmission between vertebrate hosts by arthropod vectors (mosquitoes, ticks, sandflies, midges, etc.) that feed on blood; they can cause mild fevers, hepatitis, hemorrhagic fever, and encephalitisfamily - (biology) a taxonomic group containing one or more genera; "sharks belong to the fish family" |
Bunyaviridae
Bunyaviridae[¦bən·yə′vī·rə‚dē] (virology) A family of enveloped spherical viruses whose lipid envelopes contain at least one virus-specific glycopeptide; members develop in the cytoplasm and mature by budding. Bunyaviridae
Bun·ya·vir·i·dae (bŭn'yă-vir'i-dē), A family of arboviruses composed of more than 200 virus serotypes and containing at least five genera: Bunyavirus, Hantavirus, Phlebovirus, Nairovirus, and Tospovirus. Virions in all genera except Hantavirus replicate in arthropods. Virions are 80-120 nm in diameter, sensitive to lipid solvents and detergents, and enveloped with glycopolypeptide surface projections; the nucleocapsid is of helical symmetry containing three molecules of single-stranded RNA (MW 5-8 × 106). [Bunyamwere, Uganda] Bunyaviridae A family of single-stranded RNA-enveloped arboviruses, which are spherical to oval in shape, measure 90–100 nm in diameter and are sensitive to lipid solvents and detergents. As a group, Bunyaviridae includes more than 200 viruses, including genera Bunyavirus, Hantavirus, Phlebovirus, Nairovirus and Uukuvirus. Bunyaviridae infect vertebrates and arthropods; some genera cause serious disease (e.g., haemorrhagic fever) and are classified as Biohazard Group 4 pathogens.Bunyaviridae Virology A family of single-stranded RNA enveloped arboviruses composed of > 200 viruses, including genera Bunyavirus, Hantavirus, Phlebovirus, Nairovirus, Uukuvirus; they infect vertebrates and arthropods and some genera cause serious disease–eg, hemorrhagic feverBun·ya·vir·i·dae (bŭn'yă-vir'i-dē) A family of arboviruses involved in several diseases in the tropics.Bunyaviridae Related to Bunyaviridae: Arenaviridae, Filoviridae, hantavirusWords related to Bunyaviridaenoun a large family of arboviruses that affect a wide range of hosts (mainly vertebrates and arthropods)Related Words- arborvirus
