Essential Dignity

When a planet or one of the luminaries (the Sun or the Moon) is located in one of the signs of the zodiac it is said to rule, then it is in its essential dignity, as distinct from its accidental dignity. Mars, for example, would be said to be in its essential dignity if found in the sign Aries.
