centrosome cycle

[′sen·trə‚sōm ‚sī·kəl] (cell and molecular biology) Duplication of the centrosome during interphase (S phase) of the animal cell cycle followed by separation of the resulting centrioles and associated microtubles at the beginning of mitosis to form the poles of the mitotic spindle. Following mitosis, each daughter cell has a new centrosome in association with its chromosomes.
