Aggressive Digital Papillary Adenocarcinoma

A rare, often painful variant of sweat gland carcinoma that occurs on the palmo-plantar surfaces of the hand and foot and which may become clinically aggressive. It is more common in men, has a mean age at presentation of 52, averages 1.7 cm in greatest dimension and may be present for up to 15 years. The term "aggressive digital papillary adenoma" has been abandoned, given that despite their bland appearance, they often behave aggressively.
Prognosis Up to 14% metastasise; 40–50% recur locally.
Management Aggressive surgical re-resection or amputation if necessary to avoid local recurrence.
