DUSP26

DUSP26

A gene on chromosome 8p12 that encodes putative dual-specificity phosphatase 26, which inactivates MAPK1 and MAPK3, leading to dephosphorylation of heat shock factor protein 4 and a reduction in its DNA-binding activity. DUSP26 inhibits MAP kinase p38/MAPK14 by dephosphorylating it and inhibiting p38-mediated apoptosis in anaplastic thyroid carcinoma; it also activates MAP kinases p38/MAPK14 and JNK/MAPK8. DUSP26 is also a less preferred gene symbol for what is now designated as DUSP28, see there.
Molecular pathology
DUSP26 is expressed in embryonal cancers (retinoblastoma, neuroepithelioma, neuroblastoma) and in anaplatic thyroid carcinoma
