Location:22 miles south of Tahoe City.

Special Features:Emerald Bay was designated aNational Natural Landmark in 1969 for its brilliant panorama ofmountain-building processes and glacier carved granite. The parkincludes Vikingsholm, an eclectic combination of Scandinavianbuilding types considered one of the finest examples of Scandinavianarchitecture in the western hemisphere. Emerald Bay is the restingplace for many boats, launches, and barges used in the lake before theturn of the century (including those used in the construction ofVikingsholm) and was designated an underwater state park in 1994.
