a city in southeastern Brazil, in the state of São Paulo. Population, 29,700 (1968). The city has a railroad station. It is an important center for oil refining and electric power engineering. The city has enterprises of the paper industry. A large hydroelectric power plant is located in Cubatã; its capacity is 1.2 million kilowatts, and it supplies the cities of Santos and São Paulo with electrical energy. Cubatão was founded in 1533.
