Buriat Horse

a local horse of the Buriat ASSR, close in derivation to the Mongolian horse. The Buriat is the shortest horse in Siberia (130-133 cm high at the withers) and is distinguished by massive body conformation. Coat: light brown with a black mane and tail, bay, gray, or rust, occasionally with light zebra-like stripes. Live weight, 300-350 kg. The breed is well adapted to year-round herding sustenance on poor vegetation in the conditions of a sharp continental climate. The horses work under saddle and in harness and are used to produce meat and milk. A mare (in summer) will give 10 -11 kg of milk a day. The slaughter yield is 46-50 percent. The Buriat horse is being improved by crossbreeding with Don horses and Orlov and Russian trotters.
