Burishki

 

Burushi, Vershiki, people inhabiting the high-mountain regions of Hunza and N agar in the extreme northwestern part of Pakistan. Population, approximately 40, 000 (1963 estimate). The orgin of the Burishki and the period when they settled in these regions are unknown. Burushaski, the language of the Burishki, is classified as a linguistic isolate. The religion is Islam (Ismailism in Hunza, Shiism in Nagar). Economy is based on terrace farming and gardening.
