Don Goat

a breed of goats raised for their fleece. The fleece consists of 65 to 70 percent fine, silky hairs, which are longer than the short hairs of the undercoat. The outer coat is 9–11 cm long and has a fineness of 19-23 micrometers. The undercoat measures 5-6 cm long and has a fineness of 60-80 micrometers. The outer coat is gray, and the undergrowth is black. The ends of the outer hairs form ringlets and are brown. The pelts from goats slaughtered in the autumn and winter are used to make fur products. The males weigh 65-70 kg, and the females 40–43 kg. One hundred females yield between 130 and 140 kids.

Don goats are used to improve fleece production of local goats. They are raised along the Don River in Voronezh and Volgograd oblasts.
