释义 | Burkitt's lymphomaBurkitt's lymphoma[berk´its]Burkitt's lymphomaA tumour of B lymphocytes occurring mainly in Central Africa and New Guinea and associated with the Epstein Barr virus, spread by insects. It affects mainly the lower and upper jaws of young children but can affect most parts of the body. Burkitt's lymphoma was one of the first human tumours to be shown to be caused in this way. The tumour commonly spreads to the abdomen where large secondary masses may form, affecting the bowel. Immunosuppressive chemotherapy with cyclophosphamide or METHOTREXATE is apparently curative in 80% of early cases and about 40% of those with advanced, widespread disease. (Dennis Parsons Burkitt, 1911–93, English medical researcher, bran apostle, and Fellow of the Royal Society).Burkitt's lymphomaa common cancer of African children, producing tumours of the jaw and facial bones and affecting the spleen and lymph nodes.
