Continental Congresses

meetings of the representatives of the 13 British colonies immediately before and during the American War of Independence. The First Congress was held from Sept. 5 to Oct. 26, 1774, and the Second from May 10, 1775, to Mar. 2, 1781. The Second Congress exercised legislative and executive power in the insurgent colonies.
