Bursov, Boris Ivanovich

 

Born Nov. 1 (14), 1905, in the village of Novoselovka, Voronezh Province. Soviet literary scholar; doctor of philology (1951). Member of the CPSU since 1942. Professor at Leningrad University (1948-66) and the Herzen Leningrad Pedagogical Institute (since 1966).

Bursov’s main works are on Russian revolutionary democrats, G. V. Plekhanov, the work of L. N. Tolstoy, F. M. Dostoevsky, and M. Gorky, and on methodological problems of classical Russian and Soviet literature. He has been awarded the Order of the Patriotic War Second Class, as well as medals.
