Evsei Mikhailovich Goldovskii

Born Jan. 7 (20), 1903, in Nikopol’; died Nov. 27, 1971, in Moscow. Soviet scientist and inventor. Honored Worker in Science and Technology of the RSFSR (1947) and Doctor of Technical Sciences (1939).

From 1924 to 1930. Goldovskii worked at the State Technicum of Cinematography and from 1930 to 1932, at the Soiuzkino Film Factory. In 1932 he became a research worker at the All-Union Scientific Research Institute of Motion-Picture Photography. Goldovskii directed the development of the theory of modern processes in cinematographic technique, a system of equipment for film studio lighting, and the techniques of 8–mm and 16–mm cinematography. He developed modern systems for wide-screen motion pictures, Cinerama (Kinopanorama), and movie equipment for filming and demonstrating 70–mm films, as well as methods for designing film theaters. He is also the author of scientific works and books (about 80) on cinematographic techniques. From 1930 he taught at the All-Union State Institute of Cinematography, where he became a professor in 1935. He was awarded five orders and various medals.
