Evstigneeva, Rima Porfir’evna

 

Born Feb. 12, 1925, in the city of Egor’ evsk, Moscow Oblast. Soviet chemist. Corresponding member of the Academy of Sciences of the USSR (1976). Member of the CPSU since 1958.

Evstigneeva graduated from the M. V. Lomonosov Moscow Institute of Fine Chemical Technology in 1947. She joined the staff of the institute in 1950 and became a professor there in 1965; in 1969 she became chairman of the subdepartment of the chemistry and technology of fine organic compounds. Evstigneeva’s principal works deal with the isolation of naturally occurring, physiologically active chemical compounds (alkaloids, porphi-rins, lipids, vitamins, and chromoproteins) and with methods for determining the structure of such compounds, synthesizing them, and establishing the relationship between their structure and function.

Evstigneeva has been awarded the Order of the Badge of Honor and various medals.
