Burtsev, Vsevolod Sergeevich

 

Born Feb. 11, 1927, in Moscow. Soviet scientist in control processes and computer technology. Corresponding member of the Academy of Sciences of the USSR (1976). Member of the CPSU since 1965.

After graduating from the Moscow Power Engineering Institute in 1951, Burtsev joined the staff of the Institute of Precision Mechanics and Computer Technology. He became a professor at the latter institute in 1965 and was appointed its director in 1973.

Burtsev’s main works deal with principles and methods of building digital computers with a high productivity, theoretical and practical problems of automatic control, and principles of implementing multiprocessing systems.

Burtsev received the Lenin Prize in 1966 and the State Prize of the USSR in 1972. He has been awarded the Order of Lenin, the Order of the October Revolution, and the Order of the Red Banner of Labor, as well as various medals.
