a city in northwestern Mexico; the capital of the state of Sinaloa. Population, 359,000 (1970, including suburbs); transportation junction. It is the center of an important region of irrigation farming (cotton and wheat) and subtropical fruit-growing. Culiacán’s most important industry is food processing.
