Dikoe Pole

 

(literally, the Wild Field), the historical name of the territory between the Don, the upper Oka, and the left tributaries of the Desna and the Dnieper rivers. The territory separated the Russian state from the Crimean khanate. It was opened up and developed in the 16th and 17th centuries by Russian peasants fleeing from feudal exploitation and state obligations.
