Coastal Plains

a band of lowlands in North America that stretches for approximately 3,000 km along the Atlantic coast of the USA and Mexico. It is 200–300 km in width. The plains are composed of monoclinally deposited strata of marine deposits of the Cretaceous, Paleocene-Neocene, and Anthropogenic ages. Their surface is predominantly flat, terraced, swamped at the shore and composed of cuesta banks in areas far from the ocean. The coastal plains are situated in zones of subtropical and tropical—primarily humid—forests. They include the Atlantic Plain and the Mexican Plain.
