Dvinia

Dvinia

a genus of fossil Pelycosaurs. Remains were found in the Upper Permian deposits of the Severnaia Dvina. The Dvinia were the size of a fox. The absence of a postfrontal bone, the widening of the temporal cavity to the parietal bones, the presence of a secondary palate and two occipital condyles, and the high development of the dentary bone in the lower jaw relate Dvinia closely with mammals. The teeth are differentiated into incisors, canines, and molars. The Dvinia were studied by V. P. Amalitskii, P. P. Sushkin, and other scientists.
