The Cumbrian Mountains have pic-turesque rocky peaks with elevations to 978 m (Scafell Pike) andwell-expressed forms of glacial relief. There are also glacier lakescoinciding with the lines of tectonic faults. The mountains havea humid maritime climate. On the slopes are heaths, meadows, and peat bogs. Oak-ash and birch forests grow in the valleys. TheLake District National Park has been in the Cumbrian Moun-tains since 1951. |
