Cunningham Falls State Park
Location:In Frederick County, 15 miles north of Frederick. Park has 2 maindeveloped areas: the Manor Area is located on the west side of US 15at Thurmont; the William Houck Area is 3 miles west of Thurmont, offRoute 77, on Catoctin Hollow Road.
Facilities:171 improved campsites (some with electric hookups), 9 camper cabins,bathhouses with showers and flush toilets, camp store, picnic areas,shelter, food concession, hiking trails, fishing pier (é), boat launch, canoe and rowboatrental, playground, historic site (é).
Activities:Camping, boating, flatwater canoeing, freshwater fishing, swimming, hiking, hunting, cross-country skiing.
Special Features:Cunningham Falls, for which the park is named, is a 78-foot cascadingwaterfall in a rocky gorge, located in the Houck Area of the park. Ofhistoric interest is the Catoctin Iron Furnace, which operated from 1776 until 1903. A segment of the2,144-mile Appalachian National Scenic Trail passes through the park(see entry in national trails section).
