Estland

 

the historical name of the northern part of Estonia. Estland was conquered by German and Danish feudal lords in the early 13th century. It belonged to the Livonian Order from 1346 to 1561 and to Sweden from 1561 to 1710. Incorporated into Russia in 1710, during the Northern War of 1700–21, it became Estonia Province in 1783.
