Dimitr Konstantinov Kosev

Born Dec. 24, 1903, in Grozden, Burgas District. Bulgarian historian. Academician of the Bulgarian Academy of Sciences (1961). Honored Scholar (1969). Became a member of the Bulgarian Communist Party in 1944. Participant in the September Antifascist Uprising of 1923, and, in 1925, sentenced to death in absentia for his antifascist activity.

Kosev studied history in Poland. From 1950 to 1963 he was director of the Institute of History of the Bulgarian Academy of Sciences. In 1950 he became a professor of the modern history of Bulgaria. From 1962 to 1968 he was rector of the University of Sofia, then becoming secretary-academician of the Division of Historical and Pedagogical Sciences of the Bulgarian Academy of Sciences. He has been chairman of the National Committee of Bulgarian Historians since 1955. He wrote numerous works, primarily on the modern and recent history of Bulgaria, and published many sources. He is an editor and author of the History of Bulgaria (vols. 1–2, 1954–55; 2nd ed., vols. 1–3, 1961–64).
