Busse
an inland lagoon-shaped gulf (lake) on the north-eastern shore of the Aniva Gulf in the Sea of Okhotsk. Length, 9 km; width, 7 km; depth, as much as 4.5 m. In the southwest it is connected with the sea by the narrow Suslov Passage; in the northwest it is connected with the Bol’shoe Vavaiskoe, Bol’shoe Chibisanskoe, and Maloe Chibisanskoe lakes. Abundant in this gulf is Ahnfeltia, from which agar is obtained. The gulf is named after N. V. Busse, a member of G. I. Nevel’skoi’s expedition and the first governor of Sakhalin Island.
