In north-central AZ; organized Feb 19, 1891 (prior to statehood) from Yavapai County. Name Origin: Possibly from the Hopi Indian name, Kohnina, for the Havasupai tribe that inhabits the Grand Canyon region, which is within the county. Or derived from a Havasupai word meaning 'little water.'
