Butoma, Boris Evstaf’evich

Born Apr. 28 (May 11), 1907, in Makhachkala. Soviet statesman; doctor of technological sciences. Became Hero of Socialist Labor in 1959. Member of the CPSU since 1928.

In 1936, Butoma graduated from the Leningrad Shipbuilding Institute. From 1937 to 1948 he worked in shipbuilding factories, moving from foreman to factory director. From 1948 to 1952 he headed the Administration of the Ministry of the Shipbuilding Industry. From 1952 to 1953 and from 1954 to 1957 he was chairman of the State Committee on Shipbuilding in the USSR—a minister of the USSR. Since March 1965 he has been minister of the USSR’s shipbuilding industry. At the Twenty-second (1961) Congress of the CPSU, he was elected an alternate member of the Central Committee of the CPSU, and at the Twenty-third (1966) Congress of the CPSU, a member. He was a deputy to the Supreme Soviet of the USSR at its sixth through eighth convocations. He received the State Prize of the USSR in 1949 and was awarded four Orders of Lenin, two other orders, and medals.
