Bielids

Bielids

(bee -lidz) (Andromedids) A meteor shower with its radiant in Andromeda. It is named after Biela's comet (1852 III), which passed within 30 000 km of the Earth's orbit in 1832 and broke up in the 1850s. The associated meteoroid stream is in the same orbit as the comet and produced a meteor storm on Earth on Nov. 27, 1872 and 1885, the latter having an observed rate of over 75 000 meteors per hour. Due to the rapid regression of the nodes of the orbit very little has been seen since.
