EFNB2

EFNB2

A gene on chromosome 13q33 that encodes ephrin-B2, a cell surface GPI-bound ligand for the Eph family of tyrosine kinase receptors, which are crucial for migration, repulsion and adhesion during neuronal, vascular and epithelial development. EFNB2 binds to EPHA3, EPHA4, and EPHB4 receptors; with EPHB4 it plays a central role in heart morphogenesis and angiogenesis by regulating cell adhesion and migration. EPHB4-mediated forward signalling controls cellular repulsion and segregation from EFNB2-expressing cells. It may play a role in constraining the orientation of longitudinally projecting axons.
