feminist epistemology

feminist epistemology (and feminist methodology)

feminist theories of knowledge which suggest that traditional EPISTEMOLOGY has understated the importance of areas of knowledge that have been uppermost in feminine experience and in womens lives. According to Coward and Ellis (1977), traditional epistemological theory has been either too empiricist or too rationalist. In the view of Stanley and Wise (1983) and Hilary Rose (1986), feminist research methods (feminist methodology) and a truly feminist epistemology must reflect womens lived experience and place greater emphasis on affectual rationalities.
