Buturlin, Vasilii Vasil’evich
Year of birth unknown; died 1656 in Kiev. Russian military figure and diplomat.
In 1653, Buturlin headed the Russian embassy to the Ukraine. At the Pereiaslav Rada (1654), which had submitted a request for the acceptance of the Ukraine into the Russian realm, he received an oath of allegiance to Russia from its deputies. In 1655 he was the commander of the Russian troops that were sent to aid Bogdan Khmel’nitskii in his struggle against the Polish troops.
