Australian-Antarctic Rise

a rise in the floor of the Antarctic Ocean between 80° and 160° E long., connecting the southern part of the Mid-Indian Ridge with the South Pacific Rise. Its length is 6,000–6,500 km, and its width is ,500–550 km. It is part of the global system of midoceanic ridges. The highest points of the bottom, located in the eastern part, are 1,648 and 1,689 m. The axial zone of the rise has a mountainous relief and a number of rift valleys. The surface of the rise is primarily covered with calcareous aleuritic clay silts.
