Diode Matrix
diode matrix
[′dī‚ōd ‚mā·triks]Diode Matrix
a digital electronic device with n input buses and m output buses (conductors). The buses are interconnected by semiconductor diodes in such a way that a certain combination of input signals corresponds uniquely to a certain combination of output signals. The name “matrix” is derived from the orthogonal layout of the buses, with semiconductor diodes at intersections. The outward appearance of this arrangement is of columns and rows of a mathematical matrix. Diode matrices are used mainly in computer equipment (code translators, combinative shift registers, adders, and multiplexer switches).
