emissive display
emissive display
A display screen technology that generates its own light. The primary emissive display method is organic LED (OLED), which is used in smartphones, tablets, laptops and TVs. TVs with plasma displays were also emissive, as well as the much older tube (CRT) technology, but both of those systems are no longer made, having been replaced by organic LED (see OLED).Contrast with "transmissive display," which refers to LCD screens wherein the light is generated from a separate source (see transmissive LCD). See plasma display and CRT.
