convection zonen. A region of turbulent plasma located within a star, through which energy is transported outward by convection. In a convection zone, hot plasma rises, cools as it recedes from the hot stellar center, and then falls to be heated and rise again.convection zone The outer part of the inside of a star, especially the sun, where energy travels outward to the photosphere through convection.
