Location:Along the Delaware River just south of Delaware City, off Route 9.

Special Features:Named for Rear Admiral Samuel Francis duPont, the Fort was activelyused as a military base from the Civil War through World War II. Inthis area also is the Port Penn Interpretive Center, which offersdisplays and programs that explain the folk life of the historicwetland communities along the shores of the Delaware. The Center alsooffers walking tours featuring the historic homes of Port Penn as wellas the marshlands that surround the town of Delaware City.
