Chahaerh

Ch’ahaerh

 

(also Chahar), a province of China from 1928 until 1952. The capital of Ch’ahaerh Province was the city of Changchiak’ou (Kalgan). In 1947, northern Ch’ahaerh, which is inhabited primarily by Mongols, became part of the Inner Mongolian Autonomous Region. The remaining territory of the province was divided between Shansi and Hopeh provinces in 1952.
