Bykov,Pavel Borisovich
Born Mar. 28 (Apr. 10), 1914, in the village of Tiumenevo, now in Riazan Oblast. Worker and production innovator; one of the pioneers in mastering high-speed metalworking methods. Member of the CPSU since 1947.
While a lathe operator in the Moscow Grinding Machine Factory in 1938, Bykov began to familiarize himself with high-speed cutting methods. He used hard-alloy tools, improved the geometry of the turning tool, radically changed the technology of processing parts, and modernized the lathes, thus achieving increased work productivity. He received the State Prize of the USSR in 1949. In 1950, operating at a speed of 1, 000 to 2, 400 m/min, he completed 25 yearly quotas, and in 1953 he achieved a cutting speed of 3, 800 m/min. He graduated from the Machine-Tool Technicum in 1957. Since 1959 he has been an engineering technologist at the Moscow Grinding Machine Factory. He was a deputy at the third and fourth convocations of the Supreme Soviet of the USSR. Bykov is the author of the books Our Contribution to the Five-year Plan (1947) and The Road to Happiness (1951).
