See also: Curvature Curvature of the SpineCurvature of the Spinea change in the normal configuration of the spine, which entails disruption of carriage. The spine of a normally formed adult person has a number of flexures that are formed during childhood. With a number of pathological processes curvatures are manifested as abnormally increased physiological curves of the spine or as a lateral deviation (scoliosis). Such spinal curvatures can be congenital or can develop as a result of weakness of the musculo-ligamentous apparatus, certain diseases (for example, poliomyelitis), improper intrauterine development of the skeleton, and the influence of static disturbances (for example, a child’s constant incorrect posture while studying). Correct physical education of the child has important prophylactic significance. The principal method of treating spinal curvature is therapeutic exercise and massage. |
