Bystryi Istok

an urban-type settlement, administrative center of Bystryi Istok Raion, Altai Krai, RSFSR. It is 85 km southwest of the Biisk railroad station and is a port on the left bank of the Ob’ River. Population, 6, 800 (1968). There is a sugar refinery, a butter and cheese plant, a flour mill, and a furniture factory.
