Deloria, Ella Cara (b. Anpetu Wastewin)

(1889–1971) Yankton Sioux scholar, writer; born in Wakpala, S.D. She worked with Franz Boas (1929) at her alma mater, Columbia University, on a study of Siouan language. Her most important books are Dakota Texts (1932), Speaking of Indians (1944), and the novel Waterlily (1988).
