Chamaephytes include shrublets (whortleberry, heath), subshrublets (thyme, many species of wormwood), certain perennial herbs (Lamium), and mosses. Chamaephytes prevail in tundras, high mountains, deserts, and certain Mediterranean types of vegetation. The term “chamaephyte” was proposed by the Danish botanist K. Raunkiaer.
