Fontanesia


Fontanesia

 

a genus of tall deciduous shrubs of the family Oleaceae. The leaves are simple and opposite, and the white or greenish flowers are small and in short panicles. The nutlike fruits are one- or two-seeded. The genus has two species: F. phillyre-oides, which grows in Western Asia and Sicily, and F. fortunei, which grows in China. Both are cultivated as ornamentals. In the USSR the plants are grown in the European portion and in the Caucasus.
