Bømlo

an island in the Norwegian Sea, located on the southwest coast of Norway, 80 kilometers south of Bergen. The island is rich in finds from the Stone Age. Excavations were conducted on the island from 1902 to 1942. There and on the neighboring island Hespriholmen, grønstein (a local greenstone rock) used to be mined and processed. Numerous workshops and dwellings of ancient peoples were located in convenient bays. Judging from the form of the artifacts and the way in which they were worked, the majority of them were late Mesolithic and were related to the west Norwegian archaeological culture, NФstvet. The articles and half-finished products from Bomlo were distributed through all of western Norway. During the period of transition to the Neolithic the industry of BØmlo improved; signs of the appearance of agriculture were also observed.
