Egor’evsk
a city in Moscow Oblast, RSFSR; it has a railroad station 115 km southeast of Moscow and is also linked with Moscow by highway. Population, 68,000 (1971; 29,700, 1926; and 56,000, 1939).
Egor’evsk has been a major center of the textile industry since the 1820’s. The principal enterprises are the Vozhd’ Proletariata Combine (spinning and weaving) and a melange yarn and fabric combine. The city has garment, knitted goods, and button factories, and a machining plant that turns out components and spare parts for textile machinery. Some of the city’s other enterprises are the Komsomolets Machine-tool Plant, an asbestos plant, and a children’s foot-wear factory. The city has machine-tool and textile technicums and schools of aeronautical engineering, medicine, and pedagogy. There is a museum of local lore. Egor’evsk has been known since the 15th century. In 1778 it became a district seat.
