Egorlyk
(Bol’shoi Egorlyk), a river in Stavropol’ Krai and Rostov Oblast, RSFSR.
The Egorlyk empties into the Proletarskaia Reservoir on the Zapadnyi Manych River (Don basin). The Egorlyk’ s length is 448 km, and its basin area is 15,000 sq km. Rising in the Stavropol’ Uplands, it is fed mainly by melting snow and, in its upper reaches, also by groundwater. The Nevinnomyssk Canal has been built to supply water to the Egorlyk and to expand irrigation. In the upper reaches of the Egorlyk there is a fixed dam, and the river’s waters have been diverted into Lake Sengileevskaia, which has been made into a reservoir. The Novotroitskoe Reservoir and a hydroelectric power plant are also on the Egorlyk. The river’s waters feed the Right and the Left Egorlyk water-supply and irrigation canals. Near the village of Novyi Egorlyk the average rate of flow is 38.2 cu m per sec.
