Eopleistocene

Eopleistocene

the lower subdivision of the Anthropogenic system, including the beds of Pleistocene glaciations (through the Mindel glaciation) and the interglacials [see Figures 1 and 2 in ANTHROPOGENIC SYSTEM (PERIOD)]. The name was adopted by the Commission for an International Map of the Quaternary Deposits of Europe in 1932. It was subsequently used as the name of the Lower Anthropogene, corresponding to the Mindel glaciation and the preceding interglacial.

Various Soviet geologists, such as V. I. Gromov and K. V. Nikiforova, consider the Eopleistocene to be the lower subdivision of the Anthropogene from its beginning through the Giinz glaciation.
