Colchis Academy
Colchis Academy
a higher school that existed in the fourth century in western Georgia (in Phasis, near the presentday city of Poti). It was also called the Higher School of Rhetoric. Georgians and Greeks studied there, and instruction was in both languages. Rhetoric, philosophy, physics, mathematics, logic, and other subjects were studied at the academy. It played an important role in the struggle of the Georgians for their own identity.
