CA14

CA14

A gene on chromosome 1q21 that encodes a carbonic anhydrase, a zinc metalloenzyme that catalyses the reversible hydration of carbon dioxide. Carbonic anhydrases participate various biological processes, including respiration, calcification, maintaining acid-base balance, bone resorption and producing aqueous humour, cerebrospinal fluid, saliva and gastric acid. The CA14 protein product is likely to be a type-I membrane protein and share sequence similarity with the other transmembrane carbonic anhydrase isoform, CA12, but is likely to have different tissue specificity and have different physiologic roles
